In this day and age it is important to have
some kind of back up power supply for your home or business.
With rolling black outs still occurring and frigid Winter
temperatures, you just never know when you may experience a
power outage. This is where the home generator system comes
into play.
Generally, there are two different types of
these power generator systems, one is the system that is
integrated into your power grid, when it detects a power
failure they automatically kick on within a few minutes,
providing an almost uninterrupted power supply. When the
regular electricity returns, they shut themselves off. The
other system, while still connected to your grid, has to be
manually started. Some of these use regular gasoline, others
use diesel. In order to keep your generators on through
long periods of time, it is a good idea to have a plentiful
supply of fuel on hand just in case.
Now there are some things you have to
understand when it comes to buying the right home generator
system. One of them is the wattage. For home uses, you will
want to consider the highest wattage you can afford in order to
keep your vital necessities running, such as your refrigerator,
electric stove, and even your computers. You also have to
remember that the wattage that is listed is for peak use, not
for continuous usage. For example, if you are thinking about
buying a 4000w generator system, 4000 watts is the
highest it will go up to, during surges. It is usually rated
for continuous use at about 500 watts less. Running your
generators at their peak capacity for long periods of time can
also damage them, as well as cause power surges that can damage
sensitive appliances.
The next thing you need to consider when it
comes to a home generator system is noise. Sure you can pick up
a generator just about anywhere, and there are many different
makes and models, but not all of them are the same. For many
areas, there are noise ordinances that only allow a certain
amount of decibels of sound. If you want a quiet running
generator, a couple of manufacturers to consider are the Onan
generator or the Honda Generator. Both of these types of home
generator systems are specifically designed to dampen noise the
most, and depending on the size, can be whisper quiet.
One of the other important things to consider
when buying your home generator is cost. Again, depending
on the size, they can cost you from a few hundred dollars,
up to the thousands of dollars. You really have to shop around,
comparing features, wattage, and decibel levels in order to get
the one that fits your needs as well as you wallet. While there
are many online companies that offer generators, you also have
to consider shipping costs.
It is important that you have a good back up
home power system for those times when you need it, but it is
also a good idea to have something that is not going to break
the bank. When you find a good generator, remember that they
need to be maintained to keep them in good working
order. A home generator system won't do
you any good if it doesn't work in an emergency.
